Joe Mazzulla Leads Celtics to Victory with Protective Eyewear
Coach Mazzulla Returns to Bench After Eye Injury
Boston Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla made his return to the bench on Sunday after missing two games due to an eye injury. Mazzulla was forced to wear protective glasses during Saturday's game against the Nets, which the Celtics won 112-98.
The injury occurred during a game against the Milwaukee Bucks on January 25th. Mazzulla was accidentally poked in the eye by Giannis Antetokounmpo's elbow during a rebound.
Mazzulla missed the Celtics' next two games, against the Toronto Raptors and the Brooklyn Nets. Assistant coach Damon Stoudamire filled in for Mazzulla during his absence.
Mazzulla's Leadership Impresses Celtics Community
Mazzulla's leadership has been praised by players and staff members alike. Jayson Tatum said, "He's like a big brother to me. He's always got my back." Al Horford added, "He's a great coach. He's always prepared and he always has a plan. He's a great leader."
Mazzulla's return to the bench is a boost for the Celtics, who are currently second in the Eastern Conference with a 30-12 record.
